Budget constraints were a major factor as the City’s $465,000 election budget was the smallest among similar mid-sized cities, even though it served more voters than peers like Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, and Red Deer, which all significantly increased their election budgets. Turnout in Medicine Hat was relatively strong at 37% of eligible voters, higher than Lethbridge (19.35%) and Red Deer (21.3%). The all-suite hotel will cater to business travellers, extended-stay visitors, families, and military personnel, offering fully equipped kitchens, a waterslide, pool, wellness amenities, and large conference spaces. General Manager Kell Sloan emphasized the growing demand for hotel rooms in the city due to corporate development, sports events, and tourism. The project aims to be environmentally sustainable, targeting a high Green Key Eco-Rating and involving local students in design and renewable initiatives. The interior will feature local art and photography to highlight Medicine Hat’s culture and landmarks. The hotel’s brand affiliation is still undecided, with a decision expected within six weeks. Its location near major south-end transportation routes is designed to attract both regional and long-stay visitors.
