• There will be a City Council meeting on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. The meeting begins, as usual, with a closed session. Away from the public eye, Council will discuss the Riverside Project Presentation, City Hall Smudging Ceremonies, a Council Strategic Planning Update, and a Legal Update.
  
  
• When the meeting opens up to the public, at 6:00 pm, a Notice of Motion will be brought forward by Councillor Reynish directing a pause on further Transportation Master Plan (TMP) policy engagement. The engagement would be paused until Q4 2026 to focus on rebuilding public trust and confidence in transportation decision-making. If passed, Administration would be directed to use the results of the 2026 IPSOS Survey to provide Council with a broad assessment of community perceptions and the impacts of recent transportation changes. The motion would also require Administration to continue general public education on transportation planning processes and reassess the need for future TMP-related policy changes following the completion of the Riverside Corridor engagement.
  
  
• Medicine Hat Economic Development (MHED) has released a report examining manufacturing in Southeast Alberta. The report found strong optimism in the region's manufacturing sector, with 61% of businesses planning to expand and several reporting annual revenues over $25 million. However, workforce shortages - particularly for welders, millwrights, engineers, and automation specialists - were identified as the top barrier to growth, alongside concerns about infrastructure upgrades and regulatory delays. The report recommends attracting skilled workers through targeted marketing and strengthening partnerships with Medicine Hat College to expand training and upskilling opportunities, noting that 96% of employers are willing to train staff. It also calls for bi-annual industry roundtables to improve collaboration and responsiveness, along with developing a “Made in Southeast Alberta” brand to promote the region’s manufacturing sector and support trade and investment growth. Progress on the report’s recommendations will be updated regularly on MHED’s website.
  
  
• The City of Medicine Hat has launched a new interactive webmap called “Look Up and Live!” to help residents, contractors, and businesses identify overhead powerlines and access safety resources. The map allows users to zoom to their location or search specific addresses to view nearby wires, with clickable segments providing simplified mapping details and links to guidelines and Electric Proximity Safety Plans. The initiative aligns with the City’s broader effort to share more geospatial data publicly, complementing other maps for parks, construction, crime, and cultural points of interest. 
  
  
• City staff are seeking direction from Council on implementing a Downtown Enhancement and Safety Grant program. If approved, the program would provide 50% matching grants to business owners and tenants in the downtown area affected by vandalism or mischief, funding property improvements to enhance security and crime prevention. Grants would range from $250 to $5,000 per applicant, matched by the recipient for projects valued between $500 and $10,000. Applications would be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis in 2026, with one application per business and a one-year timeframe to complete approved projects, including before-and-after photo documentation. The program builds on a 2024 survey in which 87% of downtown stakeholders expressed support for such a grant.
