This Week In Medicine Hat:

  • The Municipal Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. The Committee will discuss rezoning 965/969 2 Street SE to a Medium Density Residential District.

  • Medicine Hat is now accepting applications for the 2025 Community Vibrancy Grant, with the deadline set for August 29th at 3:00 pm. The grant features two funding streams: community projects and activities, which has $25,000 available, and annual festivals and special events, which offers $19,000 with the possibility of two-year funding. Past recipients include initiatives like Brain Injury Awareness Month, Reconnecting to Play at the Medicine Hat Public Library, Learn to Weave in Medicine Hat, and Addictions Don’t Discriminate.

  • It’s Heritage Day! Several City services and facilities are operating on modified schedules today. Closures include City Hall, all administrative departments, the Waste Management Facility, Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, Crestwood Recreation Centre, and Co-op Place. However, the Big Marble Go Centre gym and fitness centre will remain open from noon to 5:00 pm. There will also be no residential waste collection on Heritage Day, with services resuming in Zone 3 on Tuesday. Hope you’re having a wonderful long weekend!

 


 

Last Week In Medicine Hat:

  • A new medical clinic has opened in Medicine Hat. The Primecure Medical Clinic, located at 402 Maple Avenue Southeast, will be run by Dr. Andre Claassan and managed by his wife, Liza Claassan. While Dr. Claassan will not be taking new patients initially, another doctor will provide walk-in care to address the shortage of family doctors in the area.

  • Medicine Hat College announced that it will be launching an eight-week Front Desk Fundamentals program this fall. Designed by the College’s Extended Learning department, the program is a partnership with the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association (MHAA) and the provincial government. It will include both traditional lectures and on-the-job training.

  • The Medicine Hat Tigers have announced their intention to bid for the 2026 Memorial Cup. The Tigers are the fifth WHL team to declare interest, joining the Kelowna Rockets, Brandon Wheat Kings, Lethbridge Hurricanes, and Spokane Chiefs. The bids are due by September 20th and the winning host will be announced in late November. Deputy Mayor Ramona Robbins said she’s excited about the potential for the city to host this major event, citing previous successful sports events in Medicine Hat.
